Greater Norwich Local Plan Gypsy and Traveller Sites Focused Consultation
Policy GNLP5014
Representation ID: 25224
Received: 20/03/2023
Respondent: South Walsham Parish Council
This consultation was discussed at South Walsham Parish Council meeting held on 6th March 2023.
I have been asked to raise the following points in relation to this specific site:
1. There are concerns that the existing infrastructure in the locality is already at breaking point - it is a recognised concern that it is already hard to get an appointment at the local medical centres. The developments already underway in the surrounding villages, with more yet to come, will cause more issues which are yet, it is believed, to be addressed.
2. The wellbeing of anyone living so close to a main road that regularly experiences accidents, collisions, and stationary traffic. The knock-on effects of pollution need to be considered. The proposed work to the A47 has, it is understood, stalled and will cause upheaval to the existing countryside and could take several years to complete.
3. The destruction of the local habitat during this building phase of improving/dualling the A47 and putting in place all the necessary utiltiies for this proprosed site. Plus concerns as to whether any animals that may be introduced to the site, should it be passed, can coexist with those living in the wild.
4. There are no services/utilities in place to the proposed site as it is currently good farming land - see also point 3.
5. There are concerns that there may be problems for the residents of such sites integrating into the local community, especially with the proprosed screening and being hidden from the A47 - known as hte gateway to the broads.
6. No indicated has yet been made about how the sites will be managed/regulated.
7. Concerns about the financing of such sites - will those local residents/councils be financially adversely affected?
8. The proposed site is currently farming land so would be lost for that purpose. There is also concerns that there is the potential to expand into adjoining land.
9. The lack of pedestrian access/footpaths is of great concern, for both potential resisents of the site as well as use of the surrounding countryside.
