GNLP 2045 Regulation 20 Scoping Consultation
Respondent: Bramerton Parish Council
Agent: Mrs Yvonne Wonnacott
Representation Summary:
Bramerton Parish Council welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Greater Norwich Local Plan 2045 and asks that the parish’s distinctive character, landscape, biodiversity and environmental setting are fully recognised. Particular consideration should be given to SSSIs, rural views, landscape sensitivities, road capacity, drainage, local services and infrastructure. The Parish Council would resist large-scale or disproportionate development but does not support a blanket restriction on all development. Small-scale, appropriately located and well-designed proposals should remain possible where they meet local needs, including affordable and smaller homes, and can be accommodated sustainably while contributing positively to the community’s long-term vitality.

Bramerton Parish Council welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Greater Norwich Local Plan 2045 and asks that the particular character, landscape and environmental setting of Bramerton are fully recognised.
Bramerton is a small rural parish with a distinctive village character, set within an attractive and sensitive countryside landscape. Its landscape character, biodiversity, rural views and relationship with the surrounding countryside are important assets, including the presence of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and other areas of environmental value. These sensitivities should be given appropriate weight when considering the scale and location of any development. The capacity of the rural road network, drainage, local services and other infrastructure should also be considered.
The Parish Council would resist large-scale or disproportionate development that could erode Bramerton’s character, adversely affect its landscape or environmental setting, or place unacceptable pressure on local infrastructure.
However, the Parish Council does not support a blanket approach that prevents all development. Small-scale, appropriately located and well-designed proposals should remain possible where they meet an identified local need and provide a genuine benefit to the community, including affordable or smaller homes that enable local residents and families to remain in the parish.
The Plan should therefore adopt a proportionate and locally sensitive approach to Bramerton—protecting its distinctive character, landscape and environment while allowing modest development that can be accommodated sustainably and contributes positively to the long-term vitality of the community
