Land to enable to the future expansion of Acle Academy must be prioritised.
There is an old river bed that runs through this land.
The proposed road link from South Walsham Road to Norwich Road via this land is essential to reduce traffic movements, especially if The Windle becomes unusable or is closed after the dualling of the A47.

Acle Parish Council objects to this site being developed. The councillors do not feel that there is sufficient infrastructure in the village to support this size of development and that the impact on the village as a whole would be unacceptable; doctors' surgery, traffic movements etc. There are concerns about the carting away of waste from the sewerage plant in Damgate Lane and the impact on local residents if this were to increase.
Acle Parish Council objects to this site being developed. 'Proposals for Acle.
The plan includes 4 new housing developments in Acle. Proposed unit numbers are;

With the proposed Herondale development of 58 units, this could produce a total of 465 extra housing units, which could increase the population of Acle by up to 50%.
I was told by your representative at the Acle presentation that Highways consider there is enough road capacity to accommodate these developments. I am concerned that traffic flow on The Street, Old Road and New Road is already compromised, as parked vehicles effectively reduce these streets to one traffic lane. The congestion regularly caused at the totally inadequate access to the Mill Lane estate does not help the situation. These streets must be used by most residents to enter or leave the village.
A substantial increase in population will not only increase the pressure on inadequate parking in Acle, it will also put serious pressure on circulation through the village, and compromise access to main roads. There is nothing in this plan to indicate any thought has been given to reducing traffic passing through the village.
The three largest proposed developments are on the West side of the village. A through road from the roundabout linking the A47 exit to Norwich Road to South Walsham Road would give access to the proposed development sites. If entry and exit lanes to the A47 in the Great Yarmouth direction were provided, this road would also give a lot of local traffic access to the A47 in both directions without the need to go through the village.
I appreciate that, with road projects, the time from identification of need to satisfying the need can be long, perhaps decades. I therefore consider that the need for these roads be identified in the Greater Norwich Local Plan, or with the appropriate authorities, as soon as possible.'

Unless further development in Acle can include investment in the road infrastructure and the facilities and services (ie doctors, schools and the sewerage system) then I object to this site.
A link road from the South Walsham Road to the roundabout at the bottom of site GNLP0378 would be a much better use of this land.
Under NO circumstances should any vehicular links be made to Mill Lane. The entrance at the bottom of Mill Lane is only just wide enough for a rubbish lorry to enter and it cannot cope with any more traffic.

Hugh Crane Ltd own the land allocated in policy GNLP2139 (allocation GNLP0378 to the south is owned Norfolk County Council). Both landowners have a shared vision for the area, working collaborative and co-operatively, to enable a comprehensive development to come forward. These allocations, with a modest revisions to the western boundaries, will deliver a sustainable level of growth for Acle. Therefore, a detailed submission has been prepared on behalf of two landowners, to support the allocation of land west of Acle and explain that development will deliver sustainable growth, consistent with the social, economic and environmental aspirations of the GNLP.

The proposed sites may have a significant impact on the A47 and it is suggested early assessment on the junction and the A47 at this location is required to ensure that these sites are deliverable.
Thank you for inviting Highways England to comment on the Regulation 18 Draft Review of the Greater Norwich Local Plan (GNLP), which is prepared jointly by three local authorities - Broadland District Council, Norwich City Council and South Norfolk Council through the Greater Norwich Development Partnership (GNDP). This document expresses our views on the Draft Strategy and Site Allocations for future development as mentioned in this GNLP.
Highways England is responsible for the operation, maintenance and improvement of the Strategic Road Network (SRN) in England on behalf of the Secretary of the State. In the area within and surrounding Norfolk, this relates to the A11 and A47 trunk roads.
Consequently, our comments on the draft Local Plan which are set out below are limited to those aspects/strategies which may have impacts related to these two trunk roads.
